My two kitties max and chloe both seem like the tips of their tails are broken. They have not had them shut in any door or anything like that for as long as I have had them. They were six weeks when I got them and they came that way. This is not to say it didn't happen before they came, they were bathed in fleas.

Does anyone know anything like this? Can it be genetic?

It could very well be genetic defect. Or it could have been something like poor nutrition when they were small and with their mother. Plus being with all the fleas on them didn't help matters any. Thats my guess anyway

Had a manx for about ten years. As you may know, that breed has just a stub for a tail. Because cats use their tail for balance, they are a bit klutzy.

I have never mentioned it to the vet. Normally when they go I think they are half dying and I am not thinking about the little kink in their tails... ;( I will have to mention on their next routine visit.

I just looked it up and someone else mentioned one of their kittens being born that way. The kitties have never been in any kind of pain had any urinary or fecal problems, limp tail, anything like that. I am going to just guess they were both born that way. I just feel it when I pet them from neck all the way to end of tail. It doesn't bother them when I do that, just makes me wonder why they are like that..

AS you can see one of my cats (silver one) has an abnormally short tail. She has a second tail tip growing about 1/2" below the end of her tail. So her tail actually has 2 tips. The vet said it was a genetic "mistake." It doesn't bother her and we love her to bits. She's a kill-shelter rescue.

some breeds of kitties are prone to kinks in their tails .... siamese come to mind ..... had a balinese (long haired siamese) when i was a kid that had a kink in his tail .... he lived to just short of his 21st b-day and it never bothered him a day in his life..... suspect it is just one of nature's little quirks.....

Bless you for saving her! Gorgeous cats! My neighbors cat adopted me lol and he has a super short tail and HUGE paws. They are the biggest paws I've ever seen on a cat. He walks strangely because they are so large for his body. It's too cute. People always wonder what's wrong with him, but that's just how he was made!
