My cat was exactly the same. You could never pet it, ever. It would always bite you. Around 7-8 months she would bite half the time you touched her and by 1 year she was like a normal cat. She only bites now if you really started messing around with her.

I torture my cat by picking her up, cuddling, and kissing her face. Fortunately she's gotten used to that since I've been doing it the entire year I've had her. She doesn't bite when I do that but after about 20 seconds she meows, "PUT ME DOWN!"
