Our cat ran away on moving day. She skipped out an open door in all the comotion and hid in the woods. After many hours of looking for her, we left to move 700 miles away. The new owners promised to let us know if she showed up.
After 6 weeks, she showed up at their door and walked right in. We had some friends go and pick her up, and will be reunited with her when we go back there in 2 weeks.
I've been so worried about her and I'm relieved that she's safe. She's 16 years old and missing some teeth. She always was a good hunter, so I imagine she ate a lot of critters. You have to wonder how cat's think. She could have gone to the house at any time, but she was afraid, I guess. Why did she finally do it?
We had the exact thing happen to a relative's cat who jumped out of their car at our house and didn't show up for 3 months! He came trotting out of the woods one day as if to say, "Where has everybody been?"
Cats are hard to figure out.

I'm so glad this has a happy ending. Be sure to keep her inside for at least a month in your new home, and get her to the vet for a thorough check up right away. She may have sustained some organ damage if she went too long without food.

Aw, so happy to hear she came back! My friend's dog just ran away---and I told her there is still hope especially because she has a chip in her. She is so depressed, she can't even hardly talk about it. She went out and got a kitten because no one can replace her baby.

That's awesome... so glad she came back!! One of our friends has a dog who disappeared for almost 6 months (after a visitor left the gate open), and was found nearly 400 miles away in the Los Angeles area. She was skinny, dirty and scared, but otherwise just fine. Took the locals down there a while to catch her, and it was the microchip that finally got her home. Amazing story, and I'm glad yours had the same happy ending.
