My almost-7-year-old cat, Oscar, developed a lump a few days after his rabies vaccination - the vaccine was two weeks ago; the lump's been there about a week and a half. I know that it's not uncommon for cats to have these kinds of reactions, but of course, everything on the internet says it's cancer. I'm mostly concerned because the lump is hard and pretty big - about one inch in diameter, and it's not getting any smaller. Should I be worried? Or is it probably nothing?

Is it painful for him or even hot to the touch and is the lump at the vac. site? I would say, it is most likely a reaction to the Vac, ( residual inflammation is not uncommon at all)but to be on the safe side, I would put a call into the vet.

I agree with ShelbyGirl- you should take your cat to the vet. Since the lump hasn't gone down. It could very well be a skin infection at the injection site.

It is at the vaccination site. It doesn't seem to bother him at all, but it does seem slightly warm to the touch (I suppose that could be my imagination...)

I agree you should have the vet check it out just to be on the safe side...good luck, and I hope it's nothing serious. Severe reactions to that particular vaccine are very common, but the fact that it's getting bigger instead of smaller is worrisome...sending good vibes and prayers your way...(((hugs)))!

I would not jump to conclusions about cancer. Most cancers at the site of a vaccination are from years and years of build -up which is why every vac is given in one particular area now. Years ago, they were all given at the same place, which did lead to some cancers forming over a long period of time.

My vote is to call your vet. A lump at the injection site staying as long as it has, may be a warning sign. I am saying MAY. Just to rule out anything, please consult your vet.
