I have 3 cats and lately I've noticed they all keep trying to drink my iced tea out of my glass. I don't let them do it, because I'm sure it's not good for them, and have actually had to resort to pouring it into my DD's old sippy cup so they can't have at it.

I've never seen this before - what's the deal? Are they suddenly caffeine freaks? Is there something in it that is attracting them? Are they really from the South and I never knew it?!

I most certainly am mystified, anybody know what's up?

Are you aure they're not just plain thirsty?

Ha! Well maybe (although they obviously have their own water) ... it's just that they've never tried to drink tea before. Could it be that simple? They don't seem to show any interest at all in any of my other beverages. All 3 at once? Perhaps this tea is half catnip, they seem strangely drawn to it.

Pretty typical cat behavior. They want what you have.

The spouse's ex-cat (RIP) always stuck his snout into our teacups, and then made a hilarious face when he sniffed it in. He was especially offended by Earl Grey. He never learned his lesson, either. Silly cat.

Might be the ice cubes in it.

Although my cat likes to sneak over and stick her paw in any drink I have, which I don't appreciate. I have to use covered water bottles for drinking now.

The ice cubes could be interesting, although that assumes you haven't had other beverages with ice.

Mine likes to lick the condensation off the outside of any frosty beverage. She's particular to cans, generally, but a bottle (glass or plastic) or even the outside of a glass will sometimes do.

My kitties want to drink whatever it may be that I am drinking at the present time. I give them their water and put ice in it in the bowl and they seem to like it better that way.

I also think my kitties think they are people and want to drink out of glasses...

The thing is, they are not interested in anything else I drink, and they certainly won't actually drink whatever it is - but when it comes to iced tea if I'm not watching them they have their noses in the glass lapping it up. All three of them. One of them, Cleo, after I told her she couldn't have any, sat and stared into my glass, looking at it. I had to remove my glass from under her nose. It's really odd. I know it's kinda silly, but I'm curious as to what they are attracted to in it.
