Your wife should be tested for a previous toxoplasmosis infection, too.

We have a Maine Coon and had him tested. He came back negative. Despite my preference for eating steak tartare and some cured salami I have never contracted it so had no immunity. The rest of my pregnancy he will have to spend in the house and my OB Gyn advises regular toxoplasmosis tests every trimester to make sure I catch nothing. The litter tray needs to be cleaned diligently every day. Toxoplasmosis gems develop in the feces after a day or to depending on heat/weather, so fresh feces should be removed quickly.

May I add that your wife should also be careful when gardening as you can inhale it from the soil/dust particles. Much greater chances of catching it then as the feces in garden may not easily be visible and will be old. Also eating any raw and cured meats should be refrained from.

Don't panic, just get your wife and the cat tested and take it from there.
