Here's a catnip tip I've discovered works surprisingly well on my 10-month-old hyper-energetic black kitty Sir Walter:
When he just won't stop running, scratching, climbing, playing and settle down for the night, I GIVE HIM A BIG OL' HEAPING DOSE OF CATNIP! He sniffs it, eats a few bites, rolls around for a couple of minutes ... and then is OUT LIKE A LIGHT for hours and hours. WORKS EVERY TIME! Not sure why ... guess it's sorta like the way pot (or ADA drugs) have different effects on different people -- upper to some, downer to others?
My male cat freaks out when he's around catnip. Needless to say, we don't give it to him. His sister is indifferent. So the beneficiaries of our catnip patch in the garden are the neighborhood kitties. I'm the neighborhood nip dealer. Here, kitty kitty ....

The last seven cats I had, had no reaction to catnip at all. Not the dry catnip from the petshop or the live plants. The three I have now have no reaction to it.
I thought I was the only one! My cat will get big bursts of energy from out of nowhere. I have to "shoo" her off of the computer, the piano, entertainment center and dining room table. Then I'll give her a big pinch of catnip on her kitty condo and she's out like a light for hours.

catnip sensitivity is genetic -- did all your cats come from the same litter or line of cats?
Our cats have different reactions but from the same litter, they are brothers. One gets all bug eyed and rolls around on his back which creates static, then he'll run around shocking himself on the pads of his paws. The other one just gets all drowsy and hollers "rrrrRRR!" sounds while shoving his front feet out in front of him repeatedly. Hahaha it's sooo funny.

I suspect the two black adult Toms dumped off here last year at different times were related, or may have been related. I know the other five are not related nor are they related to the black ones.
