I have one of those screens in my kitchen sink drain to catch even the tiniest particles. Two of the cats seem to think this is for their own feasting.
If I tried putting the contents of that drain in a dish and setting it in front of them, they'd look at me as if I was a murderer. But....stolen from the drain, it is a highly delectable treat.
My cats eat a variety of canned foods. There is one food one of the cats consistently sticks her nose up at. However, if I leave the dish with the rejected food in it on the kitchen counter and walk away, within a half hour she will be up on the counter eating with relish that very food she looked at earlier with such disdain.
But of course, that only makes sense! It is the adventure involved that makes the food all the more desirable! LOL LOL LOL What a cat will do just to break up the tedium of the day! LOL

Adventure yes, every thing and any thing can be turned into an adventure in a cat's active mind.
Cats have to believe that almost every thing is their idea. That mindset is what makes them so entertaining.
I find it so funny when I get into bed and one of my cats will climb the stairs to get up there, too. Yes, I have carpeted stairs up to the bed. Someone has spoiled my 3 cats horribly.
Then she sits on the edge and I call her over to me. She just looks at me and then around the room. The minute I ignore her she comes right over to me. See, it's her idea.
My cat will sneak into my roommate's room and steal his cat's food and water. Of course, Puck has no problem with his own food and often will have fresher water in his bowl, but it's the sweet taste of victory over the other cat.
...and water tastes sooooo much better from the faucet.
