Hi Cat People --- I thought I would leave a post and then make some more phone calls. Someone has moved off and left a calico kitten, 5-6mos old. My plan is to get her spayed and find a home. If I were in a house instead of this condo, I would keep her but it will most likely be an issue with my 20yr old female and two 10yr old male cats. Looks like she has fleas so right now she has access to my garage and lanai and my cats will stay off the lanai in the meantime.

I just made the first call to a vet for pricing and was quoted:
$250 - $350 for spay
$20 - $40 for flea bath
$25 - for 1yr kitten rabies

Way high, don't you think? I've had cats all my life and had lots of rescues to the vet in Dallas and have never been charged such a ridiculous fee for spay.

I'm new to the area and have not yet needed to take my cats to a vet. I'll go with one in Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Lutz, Brandon. I'll make some more calls and see what prices I get. Any recommendations you have to offer is appreciated.

Problem solved. A local vet's office referred me to Pet Luv (petluv.org) located about 35 minutes from me. They are in Brooksville, FL, 352-799-9990. Here's what I'll have done:
$25 spay
$5 de-flea
$7 rabies (1yr for kittens)
$5 deworm
$15 vac (4 in 1)
I'll be finding her a new home but I may have her micro-chipped anyway $13.

The Humane Society also has a low cost spay/neuter clinic in Tampa.
