For better nutrient assimilation of food, give your cat digestive enzymes sprinkled on the food. I do. I also give him essential fatty acids by squirting the contents of a quality fish oil capsule on his food.
For example, if you are worried about toxicity from "killer cranberries" (sarcasm) your cat may have ingested, you can always do a gentle liver detox or add a little Milk Thistle to his food to nourish the liver.
