I hope someone can help - my neighbors cat 'Dopey' has been visiting my backyard for many years (yes my neighbor lets him out all day/night) - I talk to this neighbor once in a while but we are not close - I feed his cat because he always looks hungry and is always looking into my house (I have three indoor cats) .... for the last few months (maybe more like 6-10 months) I've noticed him limping on his rear leg - and lately noticed that his tail is arched a little like his back is hurting too. Is there a 'diplomatic' or non-threatening way of approaching this neighbor to ask him if he even noticed this/ has taken Dopey to the vet recently? I know that several years ago this neighbor had told me that he spent 1500 to 'fix' Dopey's broken leg ... so I know that he does sort of care ... I can't stand to see Dopey this way ... if one of my 'babies' showed any signs of a problem - it's of to the vet day/night ... doesn't matter ... hate to see animals hurt or in pain ... can someone please help me? thank you
Since you know about the old injury, ask the neighbor, is Dopey's old break bothering him? (Probably not, but it's a way to start the conversation.) It sounds like your neighbor either doesn't care much, or has fallen on hard times. If you can do it, maybe he'd just as soon give Dopey to you. If not maybe you could let him know about Care Credit, a credit line for vet bills, or try to think of other ways to get Dopey the help he needs. Good luck!

And definitely mention Care Credit. When my cat became ill, I was standing at the vet needing to authorize surgery with no access to any money until the bank was open the next day, as I don't have my savings linked to my ATM. They suggested Care Credit, I was approved, and I was able to authorize the surgery immediately instead of having to wait (they needed a portion paid upfront, which I understood) and the best part was it was 0% financing, so I never had to take money out of savings, was able to pay it with no finance charges.
If he was willing to pay vet bills for the prior break, he may not be a totally neglectful person and some prodding may get results.
I agree with the forum_browser......I'm also thinking it's not very wise to give food to someone elses cat...especially when they live right next door.
