I've only seen the videos of him taking care of the cats and feeding them. If he did not take care of them I didn't know about it.
Then why are you even posting this non-sense? As someone very close to this situation, I would implore you to research before you make assumptions and pass any sort of judgement.
A very good friend of mine is having to find a way every day to live with the fact that she handed this man cats that she rescued (but could not house) and promised a better life to, could be dead or dying from his "care". If you don't want to see ASPCA or PETA having to end the lives of ill animals, donate or volunteer, they cannot save all of the population when they do not have the mean. I personally, would much rather have some of these kitties be "put to sleep" than suffer another day.
This entire situation is just sad. The pictures and stories made me physically ill.
The concept of Caboodle Ranch is pretty awesome. The actual running of it was terrible. It would take a full staff of people to take care of hundreds of cats. Far too much for one person.
I've always thought the only way a sanctuary could really sustain itself and function smoothly would be if it were done as part of a more elaborate plan...having several elements working together to bring in enough capital to staff, feed and vet all these animals properly would be the key. If there were a combination of, say, a vet clinic, a high-end pet supply store, and maybe a boarding/grooming facility, to each contribute a portion of their profits in order to maintain the sanctuary, I think it could be very successful. To depend solely on donations is insane and will never work. There needs to be steady income from somewhere dependable.
I am so happy these cats that survived the Ranch will get a chance for a real home and love. I fear as soon as this man is free of this and no one is watching.... he will start collecting cats again.

Hopefully they will keep watching, but it is well known that hoarders often reoffend. They honestly don't see the harm they cause, which just amazes me. What has to go wrong in someone's mind to see a cat with its eye so badly swollen and think "everything's peachy, I've got a handle on this?"

Your idea is wonderful and I personally believe it would work, especially if adoptions were encouraged. If they held "Adoption Events." Caboodle had no such events.
As I understand it, he was getting donations and they added up to a tidy sum of money there for awhile. But he started spending money on himself. What other income did this man have - since he didn't hold a regular job? It seems he played all day on his Ranch and lived off donations meant for the cats. I believe he started out meaning well and things got out of hand...... and I also believe he either didn't have the money for the proper care of the sick cats, or he didn't want to spend it. For some reason he was also unable to hold on to volunteers. That tells us something.
