It all began when my 5 yo himalayan male wouldn't let me touch him near his hindquarter. Took him to the vet next morning he had a little temp and actually seemed OK. They gave him a shot and pills..
He then started sneezing and sneezing.. took him back to the vet yesterday.. temp was higher 104, but no lung congestion and bladder felt OK.. more pills plus liquid.
The vet seemed to think he has a cold. I have owned cats for years and never had one with a cold.
I am wondering if it could be an allergy as I changed food but that doesn't explain the fever.. I am soooo confused.
I did have a kitten with a cold once. I adopted her from a shelter and after I got her home she was sneezing a lot. I took her back to see the shelter vet and was told that it was a cold that had been going around the animal shelter. I don't remember if there was a fever, this happened over 20 years ago.
I too once had a cat with an upper respiratory infection; she had lost her meow!
The vet even said that there had been "something going around" because they had seen other kitties with the same problem.
Whatever it was, she got over it and lived many, many years after that.
But Keeper, I am a little concerned about your cat not wanting you to touch him near his hindquarter. I wonder why he would be sore there? He seems awfully young to be arthritic or anything like that.
Weird thing is he is fine as far as his hindquarter now. He definitely is not feeling well. They said his lungs sounded fine. He isn't sneezing now either. It is just so strange..
