I'm looking for a low- or no-dust litter. I've tried SweatScoop- which doesn't bind well and is very smelly.

Anybody use anything that they like?

I've tried the Pine litter, which kitty does not like (yes, I introduced it very gradually - no go).
I've tried the newspaper litter, which didn't work.

My cat has sneezing and coughing due to an allergy, I'm sure the least dust she is exposed to the better.

thank you.

ellen

There has been a discussion of litter in the thread "litterboxes, how does yours not smell". I've recently switched to Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat, and there is very little dust. A number of other posters also mentioned using it and being happy with the results, for clumping, odor control and lack of dust.

Cat's Pride Naturals clumping litter. NO DUST. I've been using it for just over a year. There is no dust. It seems to clump okay, I have no basis for comparison on that, this being the only clumping I've ever used, but the main issue is, there is no dust!!!

And no perfumes.

I use Dr. Elzey's Precious Cat, too, at the recommendation of folks on this forum. It wasn't my cats that were wheezing with Tidy Cats, it was me. There's still a bit of dust, but it's minimal. I use the "ultra" formula for multiple cats. It's an unscented clumping clay litter.

Precious Cat also makes a "respiratory relief" litter, if you want to try that. It may or may not be scented; that might be a factor for you.

Some horse owners say they are using cracked corn. Or horse pelleted bedding like Equine Fresh from Tractor Supply. The horse bedding is less expensive than the cat litters, they say. I haven't looked into that yet. Swheat Scoop was another recommend product.

I'm using the clumping litter in the 25LB bag from Tractor Supply.

eta: There are two TS products, equine wood pellets, Equine Fresh or Equine Pine.
Boreal (Agway) pelleted horse bedding
ordinary wood pellets for pellet wood stoves, at TSC or other store, but uncoated -- bag should say 100% pine (or fir or other softwood) and no additives
http://www.armandhammer.com/pet-care...ng-litter.aspx
round corn cob litter, " clumps nicely,no dust, no smell, lighter than clay clumping litter, smells better than the pine pellets, and goes out in the woods"

Corn / wheat letters can attract roaches in urban areas. Some ppl report probs w/ cats eating it, so watch for that.
People said with multiple cats, some had probs w/ odors because cats didn't cover their business. Got very stinky and they went back to clay litters.

I'm using streufex ( sp) horse bedding for my kitty as a recommendation. After three months of use I like it.

I use a wonderful litter called Breeders Choice down here in Aus, it is made out of recycled paper, comes in grey pellets looking a bit like rabbit food, it is highly absorbent, clumps like a demon, and excellent at solving smell issues, and probably allergy issues too.

You can probably get the same sort of product in the states I imagine? It's a bit more expensive than the clay sort, less expensive than the crystal, but far far better than both.

Have you tried the Silicon litters (i.e. Litter Pearls)? They are pricey, and you CANNOT go with the "knockoff" brands, or you'll end up with an inch of pee on the bottom... but if you go for the good brands, it's dust-free and relatively smell-free for up to a month with one cat. I stopped using it because I have 3 cats, and just couldn't justify spending that kind of money - since it has to be changed every 1.5-2 weeks with that number of cats @ $14/bag. Might work for you, though!

P.S. I switched to World's Best Cat Litter instead, which isn't super dusty, but also not what I would call "dust free."

thanks for all the info!

People who use Cat's Pride Natural and Dr. Elsey's -
where do you find it?
I'm sure I've never seen either at my local Petco.
Hope I don't have to order it- shipping would be prohibitive.

thanks.

Some in the Dr Elsey line is available at Petsmart if you have that, and sometimes in independent stores. I did look in Petco fairly recently (a few weeks ago I think, maybe a month or so) and didn't see it.
