I took my cat to a boarding place when I was out of town for Thanksgiving. The lady that runs it spends a lot of time with the cats and clearly really enjoys them. I sent him there because he has his own room and not a cage. Last time when I dropped him off it was hard because he was completely terrified and I felt guilty leaving after only a few minutes because I had to catch a flight. When I came to pick him up he was cuddling up to the sitter and clearly very comfortable with her. I am taking him back tomorrow because I'll be out of town for Christmas. Do you think he will remember the sitter when he sees her?
It wasn't the same room, but he did seem to be a lot less apprehensive. He came out of his carrier right away and didn't hide like last time.
I wasn't expecting his reaction the first time because when I got him from the shelter (not even 6 months ago) he was extremely friendly/not afraid at all. The main reason I picked him was that he came right up to me and sat on my lap. The workers joked that he was always begging for attention from everyone. I had a friend visit very shortly after I got him and he was just as friendly with her as he is with me. Then all of the sudden he started hiding when the doorbell rang/someone knocked, and then was clearly terrified of the sitter when I first dropped him off. Has he just gotten used to only being around me? He was already an adult (3 years) when I first got him, so it's not just that he's not a kitten anymore.
