They're beautiful!

Positive Felv/FIV shouldn't mean an immediate death sentence. For Felv, 70% develop immunity and live normal lives. For FIV, 50% remain symptom free for many years.

yeah but how are you going to enforce that they be indoor only or that the owners will keep them out of conflict with non fiv feline luek positive cats. That is impossible.

What is there to enforce?

There are many people who have indoor only single cat households. The average number of cats owned per household is 2.1. That means a great percentage are single cat households. To put this into perspective, the average number of children per household is around 1.9 and 43% of American families have only one child.

Since 75% of American cats are kept indoors, it's not a stretch to believe that the majority of indoor owners will keep a FELV/FIV cat indoors since these owners would be more motivated than the average cat owner population.

If one happened to escape, it would be exposing a feral colony that is already exposed via other ferals. That 25% of cat owners who let their cats be indoor outdoor cats should have their cats immunized and kept indoors if they are worried about exposure.

With the above in mind, what risk outweighs the value of a life that is symptom free and not suffering?

I even believe positive ferals should be released back into their colonies.

I see no need to borrow trouble.

First, the cats haven't even been tested yet. Second, anyone leery about owning a special needs cat isn't going to adopt one. Anyone agreeing to adopt a cat with FeLV or FIV is going to know ahead of time what that entails.

Quit trying to scare the OP and the rest of the population. There's really no need to be such an alarmist.

The OP said future plans depend upon the test results.

If we don't speak up now, we might not hear about those plans until it's too late.
