And they say cats aren't social creatures.
This definitely helps put THAT in the bs category.

Too cute.

My next door neighbor's outside cats share their food and water with the local possums. Drives me insane the cats are outdoors, but the cats and possums get along very well. Though I have to say possums are VERY noisy when they eat!

Cats and possums oddly do get along, although in that Addiction brushtail food (apparently brushtails are possums, I did not know this!) they are quite tasty, to cats at least...

But your typical American opossum carries a higher load of parasites and bacteria than even most urban wildlife...I would be horrified to let my cat anywhere near one. Let alone the typical risk of wild creatures possibly carrying rabies. Many of the parasites and bacteria of opossum can be transmitted to cats or other creatures through the feces the animals leave behind, and some cause major illness in humans. I would not encourage them to be in my yard...at all...

Also, opossum very commonly carry cat fleas, and anyone who has had to battle those knows how awful it can be.

Yet another reason to be thankful I keep my kitty inside...

I don't have outside kitties but I would never allow a kitty to be near wildlife. Ticks, other parasites, rabies...the dangers are endless.

Yes, the natural world can be a dark and dangerous place.

It can also be a wondrous place filled with many joyous moments.

I am aware of the dangerous one, but I'm glad I, and my cats, live in the wondrous one.
