I haven't seen the show (no cable) but I've been aware of him for awhile, and I always got the impression, from articles and clips, that he was "stuck" in another era.
I had him "liked" when I was still on Facebook (he's in Michigan... I was in my Michigan obsession at that point), but have actually never watched him. Reading the articles now.
Wow! I wasn't aware of this program. There's a great vet school at Michigan State University in East Lansing. If they are aware, I'm sure they aren't thrilled about his methods, either.
I was reading =^. .^= article- I've never been a vet or went to vet school, but from the sounds of it - he sounds like a scary vet! I feel bad for that poor dog.
Wander if the Op is a trained vet to judge other than just for self. He was up on TV because of his reputation from what I have heard from people who raise animals and know them.

texdav, specifically, from which "people who raise animals and know them" did you hear about this vet's reputation?
I watch him every week. He does have an old school way of doing things and I am quite sure his patients owners are aware of it.
This article is from over two years ago. The second article posted is even older. I read them both and the one mentions another vet stating patients feel like a cortisone shot is some glorified form of fix all medicine. That is not a direct quote.
I have seen him give them every once in a while and it is almost always when an owner cannot afford anything else and he tries it.
Dr. Pol does see cats. I have seen plenty of them on the show....
He was cited due to things about charting. I have worked for physicians who were great drs but were not good charters.
He saves a lot of animals. I would say if you don't watch the show and know nothing about it, don't judge him.
I also have to wonder if you think he is the first ever vet to be cited for something.

It must be the early 1940s. Maybe as early as the 1930s. His surgery alone was an outright joke. No IVs, no anesthesia machines.... unbelievable.
