It's a device you put under the litter box to monitor weight, habits and all sorts of things. I don't use any of the wireless devices mentioned in the article, but most people probably do.
What does it do about toys and assorted other items dropped into the litter box? With 5 in the family I'm always taking something out of one of the boxes that doesn't belong.
This morning when I woke up and went to scoop.... there was a flipflop in one of the boxes!
