I got a Furminator and have been using it on our long haired Fluffy.
I must have gotten a bushel of hair out so far.

It even gets out tons of hair from the short haired guys who don't show any sign of shedding like Fluffy does who always leaves lots of hair around.

Is the tool "smart" enough to only get out the loose hair, of if I overdo it will the cats end up bald?

I have one cat who is looking fairly moth eaten because he loves brushing of any kind and really likes the furminator. I've had to cut him off because he's starting to look like he's on chemo (not seriously, but you can definitely see the difference and I think it is too much).

Two of my cats love the furminator; the other one just tolerates it. Today I saw that petco has a special furminator deal that includes the dry shampoo along with it. Wish I would have bought that instead, since I got my furminator on line at the same price as Petco, but no shampoo. It has cut down on cat hair in my house alot.

I was worried about the Furminator taking out my cats' "good hair" so I tried it on my own head.
I'm not shedding or don't have loose hair so nothing came out.

I guess it will be the same on the cats.

Yes I did.
I wanted to make sure it was just raking out the loose hair and not cutting off the "live" hair.
I was concerned because I remember that my daughter had something that kind of looked like the Furminator when she was a teenager that she used to cut and shape her hair. I didn't want to use something like that on my cats.
But, like I said, when I tried the Furminator on my hair, nothing came out, so I guess it's safe for the kitties and won't make them bald.

I finally ordered my furminator from amazon (around $20). I can't wait to try it out on the boys!

I got my Fuminator today and tried it out. It sure does work as advertised. My Patrick purred lustily as I used it and got a huge pile of fur off of him. He is a medium-long haired kitty who has trouble with hairballs in the summer. I know this will help eliminate that problem and make him feel better.
