Man! I have 4 of these little angels in fur coats and I can tell you all right now, this IS their house. My job requires me to be gone every other month so I live here 6 months out of the year and they live here 12 months..
Trained? But of coarse they have me trained. The free feeder stoped the 7am wake ups by them but I am trained in other ways. Treats every nigh and one I have to pick up and feed her from my hand or she will not eat them. (when I am gone to work, my daughter puts them on the floor and she eats them...)
We all know about not moving when they are in your lap or laying between your legs, you must NOT disturb them like that.
You must stop what you are doing when they want attention and give them that attention! (You have no choice)
You MUST keep their boxes cleaned or else!
When it is time to play, you must play with them.
You must always have a escort and supervisor in the bathroom, nothing is private when you have one of them in the house.
Shades/blinds MUST be opened early on pretty days.
NEVER shut a door! (they must be able to get in later if they decide they want in there)
NO sleeping allowed in their play area, you are required to watch and you can not do that with your eyes closed.
You must allow them to smell what you are eating, they don't want it, they just want to know what it is...
OH yes, my cats have me trained well. Last year at the end of the winter I bought my daughter a heating blanket. Well of course she doesn't use it on her bed, she wants to sleep with me, so its on mine. The cats are glad we finally realized the blanket was for them. They LOVE to sleep on that heating blanket.
They come with me to the bathroom even when I shower, one of them sits outside to watch as if he thinks I am going to drown if he is not present.
One of my cats prefers to sleep on fake fur blankets so of course we oblige and put one where ever we want him to sleep.
I forgot about the sleeping part. Bubba on the pillow beside me, foot stretched out smashed against my head, gotta be touching me, somewhere. Annabelle Lee on my feet, or in the crook of my knees, can't move, don't dare to get up to go potty, 'cuz they'll be disturbed (as a result, only 20 hours of sleep that day). Or if Bubba gets cold, I'm wearing the "CatHat" with him wrapped around my head. And I wonder why I sleep so much better when I'm away from home. And don't forget the "quick 15 minute power naps" on the couch....there's Bubba trying to squeeze 18lbs of cat in 4 square inches in front of me....
Have you ever wondered what is up with this habit?
It was fun when my daughter was little, I had two dogs and three cats and her and the ENTIRE group would follow me to the bathroom.
I have tried to tell them that its the humans litter box but it doesn't seem to sink in.
I'm really not sure what the excitement is when I go in there. They don't get that excited when I go to the laundry room. Maybe you are right, they just don't want you to fall in...although, I think if I did, they just look at me with round eyes in awe and twirl around my ankles.
I forgot about having the escort to the bathroom. They will actually push the door open to make sure i have company on the Toilette. How sweet...
LoL! Too true! And, if you close the door, they'll sit there with their paws going back and forth under the door "searching" for you!
Have you ever tried to sneak to the bathroom without the company? I have... and my cat would be dead asleep in another room... yet... would still wake up when he'd hear me in there and come running!

Cats... gotta love 'em!
Only one of my guys does this-the other two are uninterested. LOL. The dog cries at the door though.
Every cat I have had, if he is in the house at the time, then he was following me to the bathroom. I remember when it was like a CROWD milling around in the bathroom waiting for me to finish my business.
Have you ever tried to stare down a cat using the litter box? They don't care for it AT ALL.
