Not sure if a medical professional is allowed to give advice without examining the pet. They have to confirm weight, condition of health, age, health history to determine what is the safest and most effective dosage of the med you want to use (that is, if the vet confirmed you are using the right med).
Fyi, cats are much more sensitive to meds than dogs and people. You really should have a vet make check out your pet.
FWIW, I'm not a vet tech but own the book "The Pill Book Guide to Medication for Your Dog and Cat" and it includes dosage information for each drug in the book.
I don't randomly give medications to our cats, but it's come in handy for OTC human medications our vet has approved for us (like Pepcid or Zantac), and for checking side effects/etc.
I did, and they answered it wrong (saying "that makes no difference" when I pointed out that the weight of 9 pounds written on the label was inaccurate; the cat is actually 21 pounds)...
That's why I'm asking you. Can no one ever just answer a question on citydata.com?

Yes but you can't control the answers you get. I think people were only trying to help.

I can't speak for everyone else here on the forum, but I'm not a vet and wouldn't even attempt to answer a question like that. Besides, you don't even say what the medicine is or what it's for. Even if I were a vet, I wouldn't know what you're asking about specifically.
It's also possible they gave you the right answer, and the weight really doesn't make any difference.
