That is terrible that this happened so suddenly, and out of the blue. As someone who has had my current cat for over 19 years, I can imagine how horrible this must be for you. We don't want our little buddies to die! We want them to stay young forever.
Take good care of yourself, and give yourself time to grieve.
I am so sorry you lost your best friend. She had 16 wonderful years in your loving arms. You gave her a final gift of your unconditional love; you helped her leave this world and end her suffering. My heart aches for you as I know your pain of loss.
Sixteen years with my best bud...my best friend...my little pal...and I come home...she's not there. She will never be there again. I will never get to touch her again. Ever. She's gone.
Please accept my deepest condolences. You did everything you could for her. I'm tearing up typing this.
I could have written the quoted text 16 months ago, when we had to euthanize Tucker due to lung cancer. He was my special cat, and we had a strong bond.
I totally understand how hard that decision was (had to make it with my very special Bear). But, please know you made the right decision for Serenity. And also know you are not alone. I'm sure all of understand how you feel.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Cats and people form such closer bonds than their stereotype would imply. I still get misty over the loss of our cat who died two years ago. It's never an easy thing to go through.
