Hi everyone. I found this forum through google searches, looking up information about cats.

I have an older cat... she will be 14 this year. She's never been a wild hyper cat by any means but the past few days I've noticed shes not jumping on my bed for petting or jumping on the couch. She's sleeping in the closet upstairs (where she normally does sometimes sleep) and coming down to eat and then going back up. I'm worried maybe she's having an issue jumping up?

Last night I also noticed her primordial pouch(sp?) looks bigger to me. I'm concerned as when I google I get all bad news.

Has anyone dealt with this? I'm planning to bring her to the vet tomorrow or Wednesday, depending when I can get off of work.

Possible arthritis in back leg joints...my older cat had this too. Hope it's nothing worse...vets usually recommend a med (forgot name...chondro something) that eases the pain and makes joints more pliable...

Good luck

She could be sort of hibernating. But I would not go with any excuse for a big change. I'd see the vet just to be sure especially at her age. Let us know how it goes.

ITA with a vet check. It could be arthritis but it could also be something else. Cats hide pain very well.

A vet visit asap if you can do, & can afford it. Better safe than sorry. It is ALWAYS worth the $ if you can rule out things. Please keep us informed.

Did you notice your cats primordial pouch appear bigger when diagnosed with arthritis? Also what testing do they do to determine if they have arthritis? Thanks for your response.

Thanks all for your response.

I am taking her in first thing tomorrow morning. On the upside, she is eating and drinking and no vomiting or irregularities other than seeming to want to hide more and not leaping up onto furniture as normal. Will update.

Don't know about the pouch...maybe because she's been taking it easy lately. The test for arthritis...seems like most definitive for two of our dogs, actually, was x rays.

All the best.

Did you get any flowers for valentines day? is there a possibility your cat could be eating the flowers? the reason I ask is my cat exhibited similar symptoms last year, turned out he was eating the lilly buds from a large bunch of mothers day flowers he was sick and lethargic for a few days..
