I wonder how many cats were given up or rehomed because some clueless humans were having a baby.

Aww how sweet.

Cats and babies seem to be this combination that would naturally go together perfectly!

Cute!

There is an older woman of my aquaintance who keeps telling me I should get rid of my cats before the baby comes. It's become difficult to remain polite.

That's exactly how my cat ended up in the kill shelter, and then the rescue shelter, and then foster care. It's better stupid people don't keep their cats. They belong with cat people who appreciate them.

I'm always amazed how ignorance is so easily passed on from one generation to the next, even in these modern times. I would have a very difficult time remaining silent if I were you.

You have a good point there.

No promises for the next time she brings it up!

But I am trying.. she's around 80, I'm not going to change her mind, and I have to see her reasonably often, but always in a group. Obviously a cat hater.

Maybe she never had a cat and knows nothing about them. My grandmother used to repeat a bunch of "old sayings" (read: superstitions) and when the circumstance arises, I repeat them myself, from a lifetime of habit. However, I repeat them to myself and to those in the know. I don't tell total strangers stuff like it's bad luck to look at the moon through glass or you'd better get rid of those cats before the baby comes.

As for being 80, most of the 80 yr olds I know are just the same as they were at 30, so I wouldn't pull my punches because of her age.
