"Many suppliers of microchips . . . maintain fee-based registries. They lead you to believe that they sell inexpensive chips, but you must also consider that they have a fee based registry. These commercial registries typically have a” low” annual fee of $9.95 to $19.99, or up to $49.95 for a lifetime fee.
"Some of the commercial registries charge an additional fee just to update a registration for something as simple as a change of address or telephone number. Other registries claim to be free for life, instead they charge "maintenance fees" should a registrant need to update any information. . . ."

I'm trying to help a multiple pet owner who missed their area's microchip clinic meet the deadline for their area to get pets micro-chipped (April 7, 2019). They had an unexpected health emergency when the clinic was held recently, & were unable to make it. I'm trying to help them find out all their options quickly, and ran into the information above.
I have to wonder what kind of deal people get at the micro-chip clinics, if the companies that sell them are making people pay yearly for lifetime fees! Am wondering what the experiences of pet owners who've micro-chipped have been. Please share!
