What time do you feed your cat at night? (weight, blood, belly)

Here is the deal: new young adult cat and I feed her around 6pm. After her meal she gets super tired and sleeps till 1am. Then it’s party time! The good news is that she plays mostly with herself. But it would be still nice if she doesn’t run around all night (incl throwing stuff around) ;-)

I am now thinking, if I feed her later, at 9ish ... that should help already. Then she is also maybe more willing to play with me before going to Bed?

I currently feed her one 5oz can (she is 9lbs and has a huge belly). One half can in the morning around 6am, and the other half at night. There are some kibble outside but she rarely touches them.

Typical weekday: Feed my cat at 6:30 when I get up.

Then at 5pm when I get home.

Also, often a late night snack or two around 8-9pm.

Maybe I split her dinner. Something when I get home and then before we go to bed. I will try tonight :-)

Is your cat a "grazer" or does she eat her meal when served? Most of mine have been grazers so I've never seen much difference in their activity level based on a particular feeding time.

But for what it's worth the cats get fed in the morning around 5:30 when I get up and then my husband does the second feeding around 4:30 in the afternoon.

12 hours is really too long for a cat to go between meals on a regular basis.


Break up the 5 ounces into three meals, the last serving right before bed time. A quick game before or after that last meal will help too (mine prefer the Game after the bed time meal) Make sure she is getting enough to eat (not losing weight)


Cats are not grazers. Any cat that "grazes" has been created by the way the human fed them. Cats are opportunist carnivores. They would hunt when they are hungry if surviving on their own, but often (though not all) will eat even if they aren't hungry if food is left out, especially high carb food that creates blood sugar spikes and lows, as they never feel quite satisfied on those diets.

I feed ours wet food when I am having breakfast in the morning, and also at night when we are having dinner. Otherwise, I keep a couple of bowls of dry food out for them to munch on when they feel hungry.
