So, have had Rafferty since he was an infant...he is now 5. His friends have basically been our labs. Now, I was concerned that our yellow lab (age 10) might not be around too much longer and wanted Rafferty to have a friend. So I got a ragdoll girl kitten (Scarlett). We did the whole separation thing and only brought Scarlett out for short times. Everything seemed to be going well....almost a month goes by and the other night Rafferty flips out! Scarlett was playing and Rafferty started "yelling", growling, etc. Scarlett did not really react...but I sure did! I don't know what to do. We tried it again yesterday and Scarlett and Rafferty were fine most of the day...then last night Rafferty started in again! Any help?

How is Rafferty health-wise? Could he be having a problem with discomfort and taking it out on Scarlet?

Kittens are pretty relentless and perhaps Rafferty runs out of patience. So when you see him getting irritated, grab a toy and try to distract Scarlett so she focuses on the toy instead of Rafferty.

IME most of the time these skirmishes sound worse than they actually are.

I missed the part about Scarlet being a young kitten. And yes, they can try an older cats patience. Follow Rene's advice, but let them sort it out (with supervision).

Rafferty is an adult and Scarlet a toddler. Give it time. She is going on his nerves:>) Please let them sort things out unless there is real concern as in blood.
We went through this about two years ago with a foundling.
