It cost a bundle but our Maine Coon looks like he is going to persevere for a while yet.
He is something past 15 years old. And has had high blood pressure and some other minor problems for the last couple of years.
Been dropping in weight for some months. Down around 4 lbs from his adult weight of 14 lbs. Last couple of weeks he was losing a couple of ounces a week and refusing to eat.
Our 20 year cat vet is a classical cat lady. She loves them all and provides good solid basic cat support. However she is the classical neighborhood cat vet. Her response to Samson's decline was of the sort he is getting old and his time may be coming.
We went off to our dog vet who actually runs a big pet hospital. Three days and $1200.00 and we now know that Samson has a clear cut pancreatitis. But in only three days he is well on his way to a good outcome. Picking up a couple of ounces every day. He is getting five drugs plus a laxative rubbed on his nose.
We've gone through pancreatitis. Please know that there may be some ups and downs in his recovery, and it can take a while to get better. I'd suggest having some chicken or turkey baby food on hand for when he doesn't want to eat much.

Eating at this point is not a problem. He is in little piggy mode. We will continue small doses of the laxative so he does not block up. He is also drinking a whole lot...another good sign.
