I know Catsmom21 has said this many times before! But I spoke to a lady today who had a cat die in just a couple yrs & it began w/ loose, wet stools/bowels & progressed. This is just an FYI & hope other folks can add to it.

I am just looking through posts to get some ideas which wet food is a good one (besides Wellness which she doesn’t like), and found this warning. Thanks for the info. catsmom pointed it out what to avoid in various posts and it’s scary how many of them has that stuff!!

Catsmom lists many other items bad for cats in foods. But yes, carrageenan is ubiquitous it seems in too many canned cat foods, unfortunately.

You could look it up yourself but since I happen to have a few handy anyway:

Many pet foods have stopped using it. Some however (the less ethical brands) had simply turned to agar-agar which is just as bad.

Carrageenan is inflammatory in the intestines. Cats systems are so sensitive to inflammation, it's important to avoid things that will cause inflammatory response whenever possible.

Can you please recommend some wet cat food that is available nationally and is reasonably priced? I agree that there is no price for a pet's good health but I'd rather not pay $5 a can either. TIA!

Search foods and read labels. Even different formulas among the same brand, you have to check every label, because some have it some don't.

And check with each new batch you buy, because manufacturers make changes without warning.

Thank you. Is it just in the "wet" foods? I am guessing it's in the "wet" dog food as well?
