I'm glad these two were reunited, but along with Catsmom, I need to point out that's it's never a good idea to have a cat loose inside a moving car. There's something else to consider besides possible escape. Even the best trained, and best behaved cat in world can & will freak out & go hyper on you if something pushes their button. You do not want 18 little switchblades flying around inside the 4000 lb moving vehicle you're in control of.
It's much safer for both parties to have the cat in a carrier. Despite those verbal protests from said cat, it really doesn't hurt them one bit,

My guess is that kitty was an indoor kitty and didn't have a sense of "home" at all. Years ago, our oldest cat went missing. He was an indoor kitty. We eventually found him 7 blocks away from home (11 days later). He had gotten scared across a busy street and was disoriented. My guess is that he would have never found his way back.

Nice story. Beautiful markings on the kitty, too.
