A cat that was missing for almost 11 years has been reunited with her owner - after living on the streets almost eight miles away from home.
Missy escaped from Eve McDonnell's car in 2009 at Five Ways in Birmingham and despite a search was never found.
But residents in Hall Green spotted the cat living amid rubbish and took her to a rescue centre where they discovered she was microchipped.
Ms McDonnell said she was in a "state of disbelief" Missy, now 17, was alive.
"I never stopped thinking about her. You just don't forget your pets - they are irreplaceable," she said, after an emotional reunion with Missy earlier this week.
Or you could just be smart and not leave a cat loose in the car while you stop to pick up milk at the store.
I am not denying that accidents happen. Animals can get lost, through no fault sometimes.
And the microchip is always a good thing. But have some sense for crying out loud.

Cats are sneaky. Ours knows to hide beside the mudroom door so when we come in through the garage she can make a dash for freedom. Fortunately she always just trots around to the front porch to lay on her favorite chair.

Yes, but this was not the same thing. When you have a cat in the car, the responsible thing to do is put the cat in a secure closed carrier, before even leaving the house. Then carry the cat from house to the car, still in the carrier. Strap the carrier in securely. Then you can go in and out of the car without worrying about if the cat is "sneaky".
Our chief animal is a Maine Coon named Samson. Practically Samson goes where he wants. We gave up trying to restrain him years ago. On the other hand he does not leave the property with one interesting exception. Across the street neighbor called about a large and aggressive cat in his bathroom. Samson of course. Chased the neighbors cat home from our property and went all the way in through the neighbor's cat door. Spouse went over and picked him up.
He is also a classic Maine Coon. Call him outside and he trots right up.
So it is training and conditioning that keeps a cat at home. And you will not succeed keeping a cat contained if it does not choose to be. They are well too clever if they want to get away.
I'm sure the owner was wracked with guilt for many years about her kitty escaping like that. But I'm glad they were re-united.
