Albert went and got his stitches removed today! His surgeon was very pleased with the results...eyes functioning normally, no facial "drooping", ear has evened out and perky...looks normal! Unless you look close, you can't tell anything was ever done!
The only "drawback" is that he developed quite the scab on the bottom lobe of his ear while healing and the wound opened up slightly when the doctor removed the scab and the stitches. He said it may heal normally, it may be a split lobe. If it drains a lot and doesn't seem to heal, he wants us to call him back and he'll suture it (I hope that isn't necessary).
So, much to his dismay, he needs to wear that stupid collar a few more days until the wound scabs over again (good, as long as it does not drain) and/or he develops some "real" skin over it.
All in all, we could not be happier
And, if any of you ever need some serious surgery for your kitties...we cannot recommend Blue Pearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital enough. They are quite a bit larger organization than I thought they were when we researched them prior to Albert's surgery.
They are by no means cheap, but in our opinion, we got what we paid for!
Right now, Albert is trotting through the house, tail straight up in the air, happier and more active than we've EVER seen him! I'll try to post some more pictures soon
Good news, thank you. Go Albert Go!
I can't blame him, I hate it when the vet makes me wear one of those collars too. Yuck!
This will likely be the last update for Albert's Total Ear Canal Ablation surgery. Still trying to get pictures of him, but he is very, very quick now and likes to show off his ability to move so fast!
All stitches have been removed, all healing is well underway, the "notch on his ear is closing as well, and we removed the e-collar a while back and he is adjusting very nicely!
We have a different cat.
He trots through the house when he's active, virtually constant motion, immediately flops and starts purring when you start rubbing him. He has re-discovered some of his toys he had no previous interest in, he LOVES to prowl after midnight and absolutely loves it when you sit up with him and play with him while he flops around on the Living Room foot stool. I can approach him now when he's in the window but will still run just out of reach any where else, look back, raise his tail and talk about it...yes, he's teasing me, I know this now.
He paces around nervously when he's hungry and waiting for food, it's actually quite comical and there is no question what he wants. He will escort you to the kitchen, looking back to make sure you're following him. We're seeing a variety of mannerisms we've not seen before and are beginning to associate what he's communicating with his various mannerisms.
He has a slight head tilt to the left side but otherwise, he is adjusting very nicely and is leaps and bounds above where he was when we first brought him home some 10 months ago. I think we're finally seeing the "real' Albert after who knows how many years...

Thank you for the update on your beloved baby. And thanks for bringing some laughter, Albert sounds like a funny, engaged cat. Lucky you, lucky Albert.
As my wife and I liked to say, kitties does funny stuffs.
Very happy for you! The head tilt will just make him look more charming. I'll bet he's feeling like a million bucks these days after getting all of his medical issues taken care of! Thanks for giving me a warm fuzzy this morning.
He sounds like a sassy little man = ordinary cat. Bless you.
