Sometime in late 2011 or early 2012, while she was still a skittish stray and yet to be spayed, Blaliko managed to become pregnant. I didn't get to see the babies until late April of '12, when Animal Control set a trap and succeeded in getting three kittens to enter it while their mom was supervising their play time. Before the officer loaded the catch into the official van, we got into a conversation with two neighbors who were observing. One said, "I've seen five," whereupon the other chimed in, "And I've seen six!" Capturing the others would have to wait for another day.

Because the officer estimated the kittens' age as about four weeks, I placed their date of birth in late March to early April. Fast forward...After an extended cat-and-mouse game (nothing else to call it lol), the fourth and fifth lil' ones as well as their mother were eventually taken in, the babies to be fostered and Mama to be TNR'd. That left the sixth kitten, who was extremely shy and trap-wary. It took all the way until 7/12/12 before she could be transported to the vet. By then it was far too late to take her to a shelter to be given to a foster household, so in the interest of saving her life (which is basically how the animal control officer put it) I agreed to have her TNR'd and adopt her along with Blaliko.

I had to give the kitten a name as part of the vet's paperwork, so on a whim I settled on Seteria, after a classmate from long ago named Seteria Smith. As is typical, Seteria wasn't given a warm welcome from Blaliko after she, Seteria, got home from TNR. ("She smells like the vet," it was explained to me.) As is also typical of cats, mother and child rarely get along better than cordially; most of the time, the "grrrlz" will touch noses only to then have Blaliko hiss and swat at her daughter.

Now that she's a decade old, more or less, I wanted to give a City-Data shout-out to my "princess." Join me in raising a toast to Seteria: "Happy Birthday, Seteria, may you have many more!"

Happy Birthday, Seteria! Your hooman is blessed by your presence. I hope you and your Mama get along now as well (I am assuming Blaliko is still with you).

Enjoyed your story of how these furbabies adopted you, you big softie! Thank you for caring for and loving them!

Both their names are unique and cool! I like unique and cool. :-)

I remember all that. (except I don't think I knew the source of the name) Can't believe it's been 10 years! Happy Birthday to you Seteria. Is Blaliko well too?

Yes, she's fine and doing great for a kitty whose estimated age is 12. Thanks for asking!

hi Goy Guy : I remember you. I am the person who lived near you in Cambridge for a while .
I moved back to NY and cared ( alone ) for my daughter's little boy who is now almost seven. Sadly,
she moved with him to Texas so I am all by myself again .

My son lives up there , though ( Somerville ) so you never know.

Anyway , I remember very well when you acquired Seteria and I am glad she is doing so well.

Sorry to disappoint those who asked, but as of now a search of old threads has failed to turn up any pics.
There was even one post that I found which made specific reference to some...oh well. Suffice it to mention that Seteria is gray from the top of her head to her tail, down her back, and also has big gray patches on her sides. The rest is white, save of course for her pink nose.
I passed along all of your birthday greetings.
