Looks to me like it is still a clay-based litter but with added “activated charcoal.” Per Amazon, the material is “clay” (look at the line tpitem description right next to the picture of the box):

I had no idea this was a Clorox product. I have been using it for at least 15 years. I recently attempted to switch to other types of litter (all failed attempts). I used to pay $12-$14 a bag and it is now $22. The last time I bought it I caught it on sale and averaged the price down to $16-$17 (I bought a ton). I am watching for a sale/deal to reload.

I feel your pain and have the same problem here. Fresh Step has a paw points program online where you can enter receipts for all the products you buy for your cat and get some points. You can amass enough to cash some in for a $3 coupon now and then. They offer a FREE box of Outstretch for points, which is why I started looking around to find out what it is.
There has never been a sale here - it shows up in Walmart and is gone in seconds. I only use it in one box because I can't afford it in all three. I wish I could.
