Hello everyone...
i have a 1 yr old cat and sometimes he gets very affectionate and starts licking my face. i take it as he's giving me kisses...but is he really "kissing" me or is he just trying to "clean" my face?
it's very cute, sometimes, he'll even put his paws on my face, like he is holding me...i was just wondering
This is interesting because my 6 month kitten does the same thing. I do think they're trying to groom you. My kitten licks my face over and over. The interesting thing is that the kitten does not groom our other cat (who is 4 years old). The older cat grooms the kitten, but the kitten always seems uncomfortable when she does it. I sometimes wonder if the kitten prefers the company of humans to another cat. The two of them have just started to curl up together, but the kitten always seems uncomfortable when they do this and leaves soon after. Then the kitten comes and curls up next to me. The interesting thing is that our older cat was not interested in us at all when she was a kitten--she only wanted to hang out with our other cat at the time. This kitten is the opposite.
But yes, I think your cat is grooming you. You should take that as a compliment!
It's a social thing; your kitten loves you and is trying to show you affection. If he's closer to you than your other cat, that may be why he appears uncomfortable when getting groomed himself.
One of our cats, when she was a kitten, would lick our faces, especially our lips. She loved licking my chapstick off (i didn't like it as much ). She's three now, and doesn't lick us as much, but if she's feeling affectionate she'll give our hands a few licks.
My kitty does that to my hands, especially if she smells food on them. She also loves the smell and taste of cocoa butter oil and lotion I use on my legs! She licks my legs and makes me smell like fish! You have a sweet, loving kitty!
awwww she loves you! My big black lug of a cat loves to lick foreheads. They are his favorite. That and the index finger for some reason. *rolls eyes* cats!
