Hey everyone! My mom received a follow-up call from Heather at Wellness, she really wanted to make sure we know the extents they go through with testing their products...here is the letter my mom e-mailed me about it with contact info in case anyone here wanted to speak to her directly...

I just spoke to Heather at Wellness Foods. She assured me that Wellness tests for contaminants, including Acetaminophen, Melamine, and a host of other contaminants including microbiological ones, both with raw ingredients and after batches are made. She gave me so much info that I couldn't possibly relate it all. She indicated that they pay the cannery to clean the equipment before every batch of Wellness is made, even between batches of their chicken and turkey food. She also said they haven't had any food recalled. I told her I had seen the dog biscuits recalled somewhere on the Internet, but she refuted this and said it was probably not on the FDA recall list where I saw it. I will search for this again as she wants me to send it to her if I find it.

I am taking a middle line here as I don't know what to think. So, I asked Heather if people could call her directly with their concerns and she agreed. If anyone would like to call or email her, here is her contact information:

As far as I know Wellness, neither cat or dog has ever been recalled. Here is the FDA list:

The last three cases of Wellness chicken I've bought have been bad. First, I noticed my cat wasn't eating for a week, and she had diarrhea. I didn't think too much about it. Then, the next case had one can that contained completely grey food, which I tossed. Now, the case we are on, had one can that was leaking, and 5 that stunk to high heaven, completely rotten. I returned the case to the store and the store owner said she has received another complaint about Wellness chicken this week. All the cans have small dents on the bottom. I am well stocked up on cases of this food as I'm going to be gone on vacation for a month. The number on all the cases, under the bar code, is 076344089544, and the expiration date is May 28, 2011. CHECK YOUR FOOD! RETURN IT! I think we're going to have another recall on our hands. Please share this information anywhere you can!

I always check for dented cans....sure way for bacteria to grow. Not defending Wellness....but if the cans were pierced and dented, it may have happened in transit and not the fault of Wellness.
Did you notify Wellness? Just returning them to the store does not let Wellness know of a potential problem. And I sure wouldn't depend on the store cashier to act upon it. Keep us posted....So far, I haven't had any problems with Wellness....dog or cat.

ALL the cans in ALL the CASES are dented. I'm talking about NINE cases here.

The store owner will take it up with the company.
I noticed the company was sold back in August, could have something to do with new lousy quality control...

OMG. I've been feeding Wellness to my cats. There have been some flavors they don't like, but so far there is nothing odd. Actually, they all refused to eat from one can once. But I tried the flavor again at another time and they had the same reaction. I think the flavor was Sardine, Herring and Crab, or something like that.

I've lost two cats this year and I simply can't face a poisoning.

If the company has been sold and there are now quality control problems, I'm going to stop using it. There are lots of other premium cat foods on the market.

Can you post a link as to when, where the company was sold. I can find nothing on it.
Again...I'm defending them.. I certainly have no alliance to Wellness. What I am saying, I have gotten bad milk, bad meat, etc...it doesn't mean a full blown recall is in order of the dairy or meat company is in order. Bad is one thing, poisoned with melamine or something like that is another.

PS...My thoughts on you contacting the company: I would want written proof that I had bought x amt of cat food with xxx serial #'s on such and such a date and returned it because____. Just in case something does happen to with your cat. JMO
