When you acquire a pet, it's a life-time commitment. Kind of like having a kid who is a drunk and a thief. He's still you're kid. You still love him, no matter what. Same with a kitty, dog, hamster or "whatever". You love them for who they are, the good, the bad and the ugly. Not all kitties are perfect little "nothings" who have no personality and no spunk. Some of them are mean, ornery little F'ers, and you gotta love them just the same ANYWAY.

You don't give away your difficult kids....you don't give away your difficult pets. You learn to live with them and love them for who they are.

You sure seem awfully angry. I guess you missed the part where I said I did animal rescue and have found new homes for many, many pets?

Cats, as much as we love and adore them, are not people. The PEOPLE in this household are being tormented by this cat, particularly the LITTLE GIRL, who is heartbroken that she doesn't have a kitty that's loving and pettable and that is destroying beloved things.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but thankfully not everyone feels as you do, or we wouldn't have our amazing and beautiful Emma, who was not doing well in her previous home, so her owners decided to re-home her to an environment where she could thrive and be happy, as could they and their family. She is exhibiting NONE of the bad behaviors she had with her previous owners. Our environment is better suited to her -- she is happy and playful and loving. Thank goodness the people who had her didn't think of her as a lifetime burden that they had to commit to keeping no matter what.

My cat took several months before there was a really noticable change in behavior after she was spayed. Seems that at some point she'd gone into heat and had never cycled out of it. She was not destructive, but did not play bite or bat at you. I have lots of scars to show it. She would come to be petted and turn around and try to bite you.

She had put on weight finally and mellowed considerably but it took time. And how old is Iggy? The agression is probably the hormones, but if he's less than two he's still got that teenager in him. He probably won't ever be a lap cat and have attitude but sometimes cats are like that.

Only scraches since she settled down are doityourselfer stuff lol

Honestly, I can't help laughing at this sitaution. I don't mean to be insensitive, it just reminds me of when my pets were young (and a total handful.)
Obviously, Iggy's behavior is a bit on the extreme side. He will probably settle down once he ages. However, the aggressive behavior towards other members of the household actually reminds me of the aggressive dog behavior that I see on the my-dog-is-out-of-control-please-help-me t.v. shows; perhaps they need to address cat issues as well *LOL*
Anyway, I have had cats like Iggy before (another reason why this story makes me laugh.) In fact, several of my cats have formed extreme bonds with me and have acted out toward other family member in much the same was that Iggy is behaving.
Much as the other members of the household would like to interact more with Iggy, their desire to interact with him might be what is setting him off. When he hisses, he is warning; and if that warning is not heeded, he bites and scratches defensively (in much the same way a person will warn and then attack when warnings--and boundaries--are not respected.)
Iggy has obviously bonded with one person in the household; this happens. Hoewver, if you all are looking for a family cat, then Iggy is not the cat for you. Some cats just become loyal to and then prefer to interact with only with one person (this obviously happens with dogs, too.)
So, your options are to either rehome him, preferably to a single-occupant home; seek out a trainer (I actually think a dog trainer could help you, or at least some of the dog-training books on aggressive/loyal behavior); or accept that he is a one-person cat, have the other members of the household only interact with him on his own terms and make sure that he does not have access to their belongings.
If I were you, I'd go with option A.

Iggys such a tweaky little fellow, mean as he is, Im afraid if we re-homed him, the next family/person might not be a good fit, and what would happen to Iggy?
well.....for another good point, Iggy is helping us to learn Acceptance For Who Others Are.....its a stretch, but works, right? lol

LOL If you'd met my girl a year ago, just past spaying, you'd have thought she was a horrible cat. Time, age and hormone drop and she's a lot different. She sounds a whole lot like Iggy. She won't sleep on your lap now, but comes to you for petting and loves sleeping on moms feet. She even is getting to be nice to the new dog.

I too wondered if I'd always be stuck with such a cat, but my feisty but affectionate girl is worth the wait. Lesson learned. Don't wait to get them fixed...

I love your pictures of Iggy. Its funny because when we got Henry (see the pictures in my album) he played and slept in the Barbie Doll house and I guess thats when the idea to drag off a Barbie Doll occurred to Henry as well. We have a picture of him sleeping in a canopy bed in the barbie doll house which is adorable. He is FAR to big for it now.

Orange kitties are the best, Iggy will calm down.

Ignore 20yrsinBranson, I do.

lol, Glad to know Iggys not the only kitty around w/a Barbie fetish.
He is doing better.....mostly.....when he feels like it. He doesnt lay in wait as often, instead, he will flop out in the middle of the floor, main traffic area, on his back all splayed out like a kitty porn star. Then, when you try to walk by/over him, he will then flip over and attack. sigh. He's still got his issues, running wild streaks through the house, crashing into people, furniture, walls, whatever may be in his way. If he comes to you on his own terms, then he will sometimes permit you to pet him, for an undetermined amount of time. This time will often be extended if you allow him to suck on whatever you are wearing, but if not, out come the teeth and claws when you least expect it. I dont think Iggy will ever been a lap cat/cuddle boy/friendly fellow, but at least we are to the point where we dont have to wear war gear to walk through the house from sniper claw kitty. Mostly.

Our previous cat (RIP) was 17 and he still ran around for no reason and crashed into furniture. Just not on a daily basis. Glad to hear Iggy is growing up a little.

My BoyKitty thinks it's his life mission to send me sprawling on the floor ... or down the stairs ... And GirlKitty can't walk past him when he's lying on the floor without him reaching out to grab her. I'm trying to coach her to give him a good swat, but she's too meek. I guess she'll just have to inherit the earth.

GirlKitty also does the splayed-out thing when I rub her belly. As soon as I touch her, she splays her hind legs (so much for meek). Very attractive, Missy!

well, Iggy was very naughty today. He got out into the garage and into some mischief. As in thick and black and STICKY mischief. He came running up, and I look down at him to see my beautiful orange kitty with one very black leg!!! Iggy somehow got just one back foot/leg totally dipped into oil!! OMG! So, we cleared out the bathroom, wrapped Iggy in a towel, and between my husband and I, and some dawn dishwashing soap, cleaned him up. Now, the bathroom looks like a hurricaine hit it, and the neighbors probably think we have some freakish creature thats tried to kill us all by the horrific noises that cat managed to produce. I dont believe Iggy enjoyed his bathing. Now grant you, the only part of his furry little body that actually went INTO the water would be his back leg. But he was so furious, even his head was wet!! Ears laid so flat he looked like one of those darling Scottish fold kitties...only....he didnt look darling. He looked PISSED! Well, he was. lol Iggy can make some really funky noises when he's that mad!! but hey, his back leg is orange again. I really would have liked to have gotten some pics for you all to ogle over, but truly, bathing one smallish kittys back leg took two able bodied adults, some THICK towels, and even so, it was a dangerous situation....this IS Iggy we're talking about.....lol So sorry, but ya'll can just try to picture it in your head. Me, Im gonna go to bed and lock my bedroom door. Iggy is sitting in the living room glaring at me and Im a bit concerned about his revenge........
