I don't know why this is occurring all of a sudden. He's a total furball and is getting mats. He cleans himself and only goes outside for a few hours a day usually on my porch. The last time this happened I had to go away for 3 weeks, bf took care of him, and when I came home, he was just a giant mat. I'm thinking stress?? I cut them off with scissors but more are coming back and I can't keep trimming him. Its going to be 10 degrees tomorrow am. I'm afraid I'll have a caticle!!! Any ideas?? He's never been one for brushing nor had I needed to..

I have had 2 cats that this happened to: one was elderly and weak and could no longer reach himself to groom, the other just got fat and couldn't reach all around to groom. Hope your cat isn't elderly - perhaps too fat?
