Cats and 6ft. wood fences... (feline, house, cheap, kitty)

Does anyone know of a way to keep cats from jumping (climbing over) a 6ft. wood fence?

**Now before any of you cat haters get clever with ideas for answers, please know this is a serious question. I have 3/4 of my yard that shares the neighborhood brick perimeter fence. But 1/4 is wood and I don't want my kitty to cross over, get lost or hit.

I am wondering if anyone has ever had any luck with attaching something to the top of the fence to prevent escapes.

That's a tough one....My first thought was to use the same material that is used to get squirrels from climbing, on the fence....but with 6ft...and cat worth it's salt can scale that easily with no climbing involved...you'd have to make the fence higher...

What we did was put netting at a right angle to the fence and out for about 6-10 inches. It did stop them but we only wanted to discourage them going over one wall so we also cut a hole in the back gate.

They were allowed out but used to love jumping over into next doors garden. Not sure if the netting would have worked by itself.

One thing I have heard of is cutting a piece of pipe down the length and putting over the top of the fence. Means they dont really have a stable platform to land on. They would have to try that first to work it out I assume.

Yes, those 6 ft. wood "privacy fences" are just an interesting feline jungle gym...

The two options as I see it would be to either a) erect a cat-proof fence inside the existing fence.... there's a specific one I have in mind and the brand name escapes me. It's very wiggly so the cats are not able to gain a purchase and therefore can't climb - our local cat shelter has the garden fenced with it so the cats can play outside. The one there is a good 6 ft plus the angled-back top.

B) would be to somehow or another attach the angled-back supports to the top of the wood so that even if the cat gets to the top, it can only go back into your own garden.

Easiest and cheapest to keep them inside. All of my cats became "house only" cats the minute I adopted them and all have lived happily everafter.
