Cats don't like change. Change of litter ranks high on litter box problems. If you want to make the switch...add a small amt. of the new into the old...and gradually increase.

My boy Max does the same thing--I am in stl for 1 wk and expect to come home to **it on my bed. But he is doing it b/c he is PO'd. Make sure the cat has cat toys and maybe play with her a bit each day. Also I have heard that it is good to pet the cat then the dog and vice versa so that they get each others scent on them and hopefully adjust b/c you are essentially telling them that it is safe to be friends with each other. My boy just wanted to go outside which I don't agree with but eventually gave in to after being tired of finding messes in the house. Keep us posted!

Also there is a litter called Cat Attract which is supposed to have a scent that draws them to the box.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem! We have two cats and the female cat refuses to pee in the litterbox. The puppy pad suggestion is the best one, IMO, but not perfect. She likes to pee on my bathmats so I have to either keep the bathroom doors closed or keep the bathmats hanging up. We have two cats (she's between 8 and 10 and our male cat is 4) and we've had them both for about 3-1/2 years. Male cat is a former stray with perfect litterbox habits. Female cat we got from a shelter and I'm fairly sure that the reason she was given up for adoption was b/c of her "inappropriate elimination" problems.
As I said, most of the time the puppy pads work pretty well. We've tried different brands of cat litter (we settled on World's Best) but it didn't make any difference. Physically she is fine so I guess it's an emotional issue. She also sometimes poops outside the box - most recently, she jumped up on the couch next to my husband and pooped. I think she mostly does the pooping thing when she is upset - we got an English bulldog puppy a few months ago and he loves to annoy her so that could be a factor - but the peeing is simply an intractable problem. We have 2 litterboxes and I scoop religiously, so it's not that. I love all my pets, but sometimes I think that if my male cat were the only pet in the household, the house would smell a lot better!

BAH! SHE DID IT AGAIN! Its been over a month, we threw away the couch after the last time, and today she peed on a chair that the dog isn't allowed on.
I think I may have brought this on by changing her food? The adoption place gave us science diet when we got her, so we were feeding her that but I wanted to switch to something better since science diet isn't so great. I started adding blue buffalo to the science diet yesterday. Do cats pee when they don't like their new food?
I'm buying feliway. Today.

That would be a new one on me...but I guess anything is possible. Cats usually mark when they are unhappy about something. Could be food, could be a change of furniture....what else has changed in your household?

That is the only thing that I can think of that has changed recently. The couch has been gone for about a month. She peed on the chair that she usually sleeps on at night.
Boo!

How about a neighborhood cat that he/she can see in the yard? I had a friend, whose cat peed on "whatever" when the next door neighbors cat came into their yard. It sure is a guessing game!

it is interesting, though, that your friends cat did that.
