I housesat for someone and their tortoise died. Just before that - my grandmother died. I cried for days over the turtle.

I felt I could help the turtle, I couldn't do anything about my grandmother.

You can take care of Otto, but you feel powerless to cure your Mom. It's ok - it's natural.

I know how you feel. I've had a similar experience. Obsessing about my cat's health, when my own dad has cancer.

thanks its crazy right!! Otto defined my life, I became his caretaker, I did not realize how much of my day revolved around him, my purpose, and now I am lost. I really did not love being in this role but somehow now its gone, IM confused, bored and lost.
