Also remember that cats can fit into incredably small and apparently inaccessable spaces. Ask my family about the hour they waited for me to FIND my cat when I was moving. Who would have guessed she could have slipped into such a small opening under the dresser?
Good advise about keeping the harness and leash on inside the room. Rarely can it all dissapear in a hideyhole they find. But before kitty gets that chance, check for small hard to get to spaces and either block them or open then. I took the bottom drawer out of the dresser and it no longer was a good hideyhole.
My cat also hid under the bedding thinking she was invisible. If they do this, don't spoil the illusion.
Personally I very much like Super 8. The rooms are very nice, they have a breakfast bar and the access to rooms is from inside. They don't do that "we keep a copy of your ID incase your up to no good that Motel 6 does. And they are very very reasonable rates, especially if you book online. Didn't see any prostitutes hanging around there either.
When I took my cat to the vet, when she was small and unfixed and vicious about anything scary, I'd put her in a zip up laundry bag. She could go balistic and not hurt herself or anyone else. For a cat which has major fright problems, perhaps this would help when taking them out of the carrier. Sounds mean but she just snuggled up and went to sleep.
