I have a long haired male cat who does go outside. Occasionally he does pick up burrs, but this seems different. He has little "bumpies" under his chin, also, some on top of his head. Its hard to explain, they seem external, that is, they don't seem to be growing from the inside. They are almost like little scabs, but fur is around them. They are too close to his skin to cut off.

I try worrying them off, but only managed to get a few off that way. I tried holding a warm wash cloth against it to loosen them up, but he wouldn't sit still long enough. Other than waiting for them to grow out so I can cut them off, any suggestions?

I thought perhaps trying to loosen them with a mixture of baby shampoo and warm water, then gently try to pick them off. Or is there something I can get in the pet store to help loosen them?

Thanks for suggestions!

Can you maybe post a pic of them? Are the ones on his head the same as the ones on his chin? My first thought, when you said the chin...was cat acne which is very common.

Usually plastic dishes cause this. Cleaning his chin with some peroxide a few times a week will get rid of it quickly IF that is what is is. http://cats.about.com/cs/healthissues/a/acne.htm
One of my Ragdolls has a bump on the top of his head...a small growth that has been there since a kitten. We've kept an eye on it over the years and it has never changed in shape or size...which is a good thing.

We just started using a plastic dish, I thought it was better because he could lap food against the sides. We used to use paper plates, its just easier to clean up. I will switch back to paper plates, and try the peroxide. I can worry them off gently, he likes that, one bumpie at a time.

Thanks for the info!
