This is a good post, cleosmom. Many aren't realizing that cats and ferrets are getting diagnosed with H1N1 and their humans are also infected with H1N1 too.

Thanks for posting here. I'll try to post this back to the Idaho link as the information about the ferrets etc. is there too.

What is frightening to me is to think how many are not being diagnosed as owners either don't know how to explain the symptoms, vets aren't asking about them etc.

Pet health should be a question for all who are seeing a provider for a Influenza-Like -Illness right now. If your provider doesn't ask, volunteer the info.

Also, cleosmom, you and I have discussed before how some veterinarians don't think viruses can be transmitted to humans from animals. If someone has a sick cat and you are taking your pet to be seen, you may want to print this article out for your DVM. This story broke during the night.

GOOD JOB!

Lightbulb Link to continuing H1N1 information, including cats and ferrets

Here's the link I mentioned earlier. Don't blow it off because it is posted in the Idaho forum. MDs from several states as well as other health care providers read it. Yes, there is an Intermountain focus on that thread, but the CDC data can be reviewed for your area instead of the Intermountain West.

And, Park City is positively in the Intermountain West, the location of this second H1N1 infected cat was found. Utah has the highest death rate in the nation/capita from human H1N1. The data from Utah is being studied as a sub-set of U.S. data.

Page 41 has the Utah cat data that has been posted so far. Probably 3-4 pages earlier (38-40) or somewhere in there are the posts about ferrets.

I hope this helps anyone who is wondering. Don't wondered about your animal, contact your Veterinarian if your animal isn't acting like him/herself and you don't know why.
