Trust is lovely. I adopted my cat from a shelter 2 years ago and it really is astounding how much more trusting she is with me now than when I first got her. In fact, it seems to increase with every day.
Although, as for the trust-you-so-much-to-fall-asleep-in-your-lap, I could do without that much trust, as my cat seems to love to do this when I am studying, except that she lies all over my papers and books rather than my lap!
I love that look of trust. However, I wonder about that stink eye look that I get when it looks like my two would eat me in a heartbeat if they were bigger and I didn't feed them every day.
How true.... My Annabelle was born feral, and has been with me almost 8 years, in the last 2 years she is finally settling in and accepts that I am not going to hurt her, throw her back outside, etc. She has come to peace with her situation, mostly, she'll ask to be held, although for short times, will ask to lay on my lap, each time a little longer, sleeps in the bed, loves to give headbunks, bump her forehead against mine. Isn't as mean to her Bubba as she once was. I realize I love her more each day, that trust is a wonderful thing. I still have to be slow moving around her, but that's fine.
When I pet my cats and they stretch and purr, it always fills me with wonder that cats will even allow people to touch them, let alone so obviously enjoy it.
My cat doesn't trust me anymore, everytime she lays on her back I run over and give her rasberries on her belly...lol
*LOL* I forgot to mention it in my post but this is something that my cat has begun to do recently that, to me, signals complete and utter trust--lying on his/her back with all four paws in the air, belly completely exposed (although, I believe I would get my eyes scratched out if I ever tried to give my cat raspberries while she was lying like this ).
My cat used to be an outdoor cat. When I first moved into my house, he wouldn't get near me. Two months later, he was eating out of my hand and letting me pet him. Four months after that, he walked in the house and stayed.
He's just so happy not to have to live outside anymore. Instead of having to sleep in a cold basement, he sleeps underneath his baby blankets during the day, and snuggles with me under the covers at night or if he sleeps on top of them, he's glued to me. Instead of having to scrounge for food, he has a bowl of quality dry cat food (and a bowl of water, of course) in the kitchen all the day to snack on, and quality canned food once a day. He gets his "people" treats, and is now spoiled rotten. He rolls over on his back to get his belly scratched, and I seriously doubt if he would want to go back to his former life.

I tried that and got a mouthful of fur
