Is there a place in their favorite room that you can just sit & read a book or newspaper, or do something else *quiet* for a while each day to show that you can be near them but not bother them?

They are so cute!!! I was going to suggest the same thing that 3-Oaks did, because I think eventually they would voluntarily come to you. My Maine Coon baby still has a bit of a shy side although he was never really feral (just not well-cared for til I got him) and he is very affectionate with me as long as I don't get too enthusiastic, haha! He refuses to be a lap cat but does like to be as close to me as he can at all times. I also found that he is a little fearful in new places but does much better if I pick him up and carry him around and show him everything, so keep that in mind for the future. Be careful, coons have a way of sneaking into your heart

I read this post because I thought some crazy-person adopted raccoon puppies. I am so so glad I was mistaken

I love to observe wildlife and think raccoons are cute but not pets. Here in Arizona it is unlawful to keep wildlife as pets and Fish & Game will confiscate any animals people are keeping in violation of the law.

The state does license wildlife rehabilitators that try to rescue, care for and release animals and birds back into the wild. Those that were kept as pets or that can never fend for themselves are kept idefinitely by those licensed by the state and may be used for educational displays/events.

Thankfully there are no prohibitions against wolf-dogs one of which I lost this last spring after 12 great years.

Fight their fear with offering your love. They are very pretty and in the long run they will love you back for being patient with them.

Thank you all for the advice and well wishes. It has been 9 weeks now since I adopted the sisters and things are going great. They are much more social now and have revealed a passion for wet food. I look forward to a lot of good times.
