Last week when the UPS guy was here, Charley, my big black and white, took a running leap through the door. I followed him outside; he got on the roof next door and wouldn't come down. I left the door open, days, and there was no sign of him. I thought he had left for certain. In the meantime, one of my students gave me another cat, another male, grey striped ring tail, nice boy -- Kelsey.
Now this morning I hear meowing at the door, and Charley came back! I am so happy, so glad to see him, just hugged him and kissed him.
But now I have TWO cats! I've never had two cats before. No big fights yet, but some loud complaining on both sides.
Advice? they're been in the same house for 19 minutes!!

Very cute kitties - not a cat person but they say w/ dogs, as long as both are neutered and introduced slowly, there's not likely to be a problem (how true that is, I really dont know, not very familiar w/ male dogs either, LOL). Anyway, glad you got Charley back and best of luck w/ Kelsey (it might not be a bad idea to get both microchipped in case they get out), hopefully it'll all work out. Have heard rubbing a towel over one and giving it to the other one might work as they get used to each other's scent but I think it's prob. more helpful when they havent yet been introduced, at this point I prob. wouldnt separate them unless they really are fighting/drawing blood.

Yeah, I've been lovin' on them both, and so far they're just kind of circling around each other, and once a couple very distant swats, but no real serious attacks. YET. I think they have to determine who's "top cat"; Edward is much bigger and older, so it may be him, I think. He's also experienced in life (having been rescued as a stray, and being out this week -- I was so worried!! It was snowing!!!), whereas Kelsey has never been outside and is just a big spoiled baby.
I've fostered cats where they had to interact, but they were kittens. These are two big, grown guys. I'm thinking it's possible for them to be friends, at least I hope so (?). Oh, and both are neutered w/ all currebt shots.
8:30 and all is peaceful -- it's morning nap time.

I have 6....3 are neutered males and all get along just fine. Play, cuddle, occasional swat as one goes by...but the females do that as well. None of mine have the strong desire to be alpha. Probably one of the Raggies, Harley, has the strongest personality....but it doesn't seem to effect the others.
On intros...they may hiss or even growl...but unless there is an all and out brawl, I wouldn't worry about. But do keep an eye on them and I wouldn't leave them alone just yet.

Morning Shelby! You know, I've always wanted to have a companion for my forever cat, but she always had such a hissy fit, it never worked out. But these two, I'm hoping they will enjoy each others' company eventually. And yes, I've seen tv programs about people who have numerous cats, all well cared for and clean, (not a messy cat lady pathology thing), and the cats do get along. Two *is* my limit, at least for now. But I'm kind of happy I have two.

LOL...2 was my limit at one time! But, some how the crew grew! I guess they are sort of like potato chips...You can never have just one!
LitterMaid self cleaning boxes and vaccuming every single day help with people never knowing we even have cats...unless they come out to visit of course!
We have three neutered males and six spayed females.
They range in age from 12 years to 2 years old.
They are a big happy family and everybody gets along fine.
The youngsters like to play chase and wrestle and once in a while they are able to entice one of the “elders” into the game.
There is no Alpha Cat, but they have their own pecking order of who’s dominant over whom and that changes from time to time.
Once in a while a couple of them will get into a territorial spat that involves hissing and a poke or two with a paw but no claws or teeth get involved.
This usually happens when somebody wants to take a nap where somebody else is already sleeping.

Yeah, as long as I love on them both and feed them good, looks like they'll be alright. I'm so content having two...
Since I have just come from cleaning all my kitty litters, I would suggest, if you already haven't done so, getting two litter pans. Your first male cat feels that the original kitty litter is his. This fact may, down the road a bit, produce fighting among the two. In my clueless days, when I introduced a second cat to my cat that I had for years, I overlooked the kitty litter situation. And it caused a lot of trouble, so much so, that my first cat actually bit the new one. That is when I got a clue....get a second kitty litter!
