Hi there.

I was just curious if there is a cat harness out there that you found to be either much better or much worse than all of the others?

The reviews on petco.com are rather sparse.

Thank you!

I actually use dog harnesses. They have an attachment at the chest connecting the neck part to the part that goes around the ribs. I think they are much safer and more secure.

I was just going to suggest (if you hadn't mentioned it in your post) to use a dog harness if your cat is larger sized especially.

Are you going to leash train your cat? If so, I would LOVE to know how it goes. I wanted to leash train my cats but when I started, we'd always get to the "lie down strike" stages where my cat would lie down and absolutely REFUSE to get up if he felt the slightest tug from a leash urging him in the direction I wanted. Even food bribes where I'd place treats in the direction I wanted him to go, sometimes wouldn't work. I didn't have the patience to continue with the trainings and wait around for 10 or 25 minutes for him to get up and move where I wanted him to go.

I found it SO much easier to teach them to : sit, stay, give paw, give the other paw, jump up (where I wanted him to jump), lie down and speak.. each of which were learned in the space of minutes to no more than a few days with three 5 to 10 minute trainings per day.

When it became clear that teaching walking on a leash might take weeks or longer, I threw in the towel (but maybe I shouldn't have). I was spoiled at who quickly they learned the other tricks. From my perspective, I could have tolerated the lie down strikes if I had a book to read while waiting out the strikes, lol.

Don't forget that if you take a cat outdoors, it's likely to pick up some fleas which it will bring back in to your previously happy home.

I don't plan on taking him out often. I mainly want the harness so he is able to stretch his little legs on the road trip we are taking in a few months.

I've heard "figure 8" harnesses work better with cats, from a fit standpoint.
