If this is true then they were *not declawed.* Your post is very misleading. Those of us who volunteered in shelters and worked in Animal Hospitals know better.

Have you paid attention to anything else anyone's said? Because I think there's a larger message here that you seem to be missing.

That was rude. People have given you very good advice that you asked for. I believe Jenkay was just wondering what you thought of the de-clawing advice.

And before you asked it....no I'm not your mother.

Putting it bluntly, declawing an outdoor cat is very likely a death sentence. The cat cannot jump, climb, or balance properly. The major problem though, is losing a major weapons system. Outdoor cats get in fights. Usually it is with other cats, in which case a declawed cat might just get beat up and mauled. However, it could be defending against a predator looking for an easy meal. Predators have an extraordinary ability to sense a weakness or vulnerability in another animal and exploit it. While a couple of quick swats from razor sharp claws will send a fox or small dog on its way, without those claws and the ability to jump and climb, things could get really ugly. Put me firmly in the anti declawing camp, will never, ever do it to any cat of mine. My indoor cat only has all her natural weapons, and she will always keep them.

Its time to change vets. Declawing is mutilation for convenience plain and simple. Any vet that would recommend that procedure should retire since they have lost their concern over the animal's well being in favor of their own inabilities.

You haven't responded to what anyone's said about declawing (the advice you asked for), only tried to make an excuse about why scratching posts won't work. Hence my question.

Jenkay, I don`t need to respond. You said " only tried to make an excuse about why scratching posts won`t work" Do you think that you know me well enough to make that ASSUMPTION. Again I say..Who are you...
